South Glens Falls - Don Williams won his fifth Forever Young high-average crown Thursday afternoon at Kingpin's Alley, fashioning a superb 703 series on games of 231, 225 and 247. It proved to be the lone accolade the veteran would take home on this day.

Gary Sampson fired 629 from the anchor spot, opening with 258 and 200 games and receiving ample assistance from wife Erica's (170-170-143) for 483 in the leadoff role. That was enough to power The Wombats to a 3-1 victory over the Tomahawks and the league championship for 2014.

The winners took the opener by 67 and followed that with a 40-pin triumph, putting the Toms' backs squarely against the wall. Having to win two points proved too steep a hill to climb.

John Urban posted 211-177-203 for 591 as the Over The Hill Gang beat Leftover 3-1 to finish in third place. Leftover got 569 from Rod LaChapelle and 564 from Ray Davignon and ended up tied for fourth with Twisted Sisters, who handled the Yanks 3½-½ behind Ellen Marcantonio's steady 171-179-170-520.

Floyd Butler shot 559 with an opening deuce but Fire And Ice were bounced 3½-½ by Kay + Dick as Mr. Kenneally fired 202-194-192 for 588. Everlyn Ferris managed an outstanding 171-159-185 for 515 in Ups And Downs' obliteration of The Singers. Roy Brady had the circuit's other 500 set.

Williams won best average with 206 and Kenneally ended at 203. Brady finished at 199, Butler 194 and Davignon 191.

Tomahawks On Verge Of Title As Brady Stars
Draw Or Better In Next Week's Finale Required

South Glens Falls - Roy Brady came off a disappointing 167 opener to throw consecutive 221 and 223 games, pacing the Forever Young league with 611 - and, most importantly, giving the Tomahawks a 3-1 win over Twisted Sisters in Week 14 action Thursday afternoon at Kingpin's Alley. Brady's partner, Don Williams, contributed a consistent (but sub-par) 190-193-196 for 579.

The win, combined with a surprising 4-0 upset sweep by Ups And Downs against the long-running first-place Wombats, vaulted the Tommies into the standings lead with one week remaining. Everlyn and Charles Ferris provided the firepower with six games above their averages.

Dick Kenneally had the other 600 or better series, a 603 on games of 189, 234 and 180 in Kay + Dick's 3-1 triumph over The Singers.

The Toms need at minimum a split of next week's points versus those pesky Wombats to assure the championship. There can be no tie without a half-point somewhere in the mix, so a roll-off is a remote possibility.

Williams and Kenneally are at 204 and Brady at 201 on the high-average list.

Showdown Looms As Each Win 3-1 In Week 13

South Glens Falls - The league-leading Wombats beat the Yanks 3-1 Thursday afternoon to run their record to 35-17 after thirteen weeks of play in the Forever Young league at Kingpin's Alley. Gary Sampson showed the way for the winners with 635 on games of 232, 193 and 210. The loss eliminated the Yanks from title contention.

The Tomahawks stayed right on the Wombats' heels via their 3-1 win against Kay + Dick. Roy Brady led the league with 644 on games of 185, 247 and 212 while partner Don Williams managed a consistent 595 (192-201-202). Dick Kenneally had another strong outing with 231-214-198 for 643.

Ray Davignon (214-581) and Rod LaChapelle (220-580) led the Leftovers to a 3-1 victory over The Singers. Joe Sycuro put 206 in the middle of a 511 set.

Four teams still have a mathematical chance for top honors, but the smart money says in two weeks The Wombats and Tomahawks will square off one last time.

Next week's premier matchups are the Over The Hill Gang vs. Yanks and the Tomahawks vs. Twisted Sister.

Williams is atop the average leaderboard at 205, with Kenneally at 204 and Brady at 201.

Wombats, Tommies Get Some Separation

South Glens Falls - What a difference fifteen hours make. Roy Brady recovered from an absolutely horrendous showing Wednesday night in the Show Me The Money league, firing a ten-strike opening 260 game Thursday afternoon to lead the Tomahawks to a 4-0 sweep of The Singers and pull within two points of the pace-setting Wombats in the Forever Young league at Kingpin's Alley. Roy added 188 and 200 to finish at 648. He received minimal help from teammate Don Williams, who limped to 590 (173-191-226).

The Wombats were hammered in the first game by Fire And Ice (128 pins compliments of Floyd Butler's 247) but snapped back to take the middle game by 129 - thanks to Gary Sampson's 231. The folks from Down Under won the deciding game by 14 for the hard-earned 3-1 victory. Butler finished with 606.

Dick Kenneally shot 641 (192-246-203) as Kay + Dick beat the Yanks 3-1 to pull even at 24-24 on the year. Tony Plicofsky filled in again for vacationing Cathy Tracy and came oh-so-close with 226-182-191 for 599.

Three weeks are left in the season and only The Singers and Ups And Downs have been eliminated from contention.

Next week's premier matchups are Wombats vs. Yanks, Tomahawks vs. Kay + Dick and Twisted Sister vs. the Over The Hill Gang.

Top Three Within Three As Wombats, Tommies Fall
Four Weeks Left As Race Tightens

South Glens Falls - The Wombats were swept and the Tomahawks foundered in Week 11 action of the Forever Young league on Thursday afternoon at Kingpin's Alley.

Tony Pliscofsky filled in for Cathy Tracy and led Twisted Sisters with 566 (180-201-185) and a 4-0 Wombat beating. After a long string of successes, the league leaders had little to offer on this day.

The Tommies squandered a huge opportunity to make up ground, losing 3-1 to cellar-dwelling Ups And Downs. Roy Brady put 243 in the center of his 593 and teammate Don Williams fortunately picked the same game to tally his lone deuce of the session for their point.

The Over The Hill Gang won 3-1 against The Singers to hop into second place. John Urban finished with 215 to pull out the total-pin point for the winners.

Dick Kenneally made a decent return from the disabled list and paced the league with 606 on games of 213, 177 and 216. Ray Davignon somehow had 268 amidst his 602 for the only other 600 or better effort.

Scoring was tough. Games under average prevailed over those over by 38-20 and the session average was five pins less than the season norm.

The Wombats are at 29-15 with the Over The Hill Gang 27-17 and the Toms at 26-18. The Yanks are making a move, now 5½ back. Mark Basso (224-557) and Floyd Butler (566) cancelled each other out in the Yanks' 2½-1½ victory.

Next week's premier matchup looks to be Fire And Ice vs. The Wombats.

The Other Sampson Sparks Wombats To Win
Erica Shoots 517 As Tomahawks Fall 3-1; Now Four Back

South Glens Falls - The Wombats got an unexpected boost Thursday afternoon at Kingpin's Alley as leadoff gal Erica Sampson fired 167-165-185 for a whopping 517 triple (718 with handicap). That effort along with last week's star Gary (216-564) was enough to beat the Tomahawks 3-1 and open up a four-point lead in the standings after ten weeks.

Don Williams paced the Tommie loss and all other Forever Young keglers with 614 on games of 206, 227 and 181. Teammate Roy Brady contributed 179-216-186 for 581.

Ray Davignon had the other 600 set, a 612 on games of 226, 192 and 194 but his Leftover duo was swept by the Yanks behind anchor Mark Basso's 202-560 performance.

The Wombats sit at a comfortable 29-11 with the Toms at 25-15. The Over The Hill Gang is another point back, the Yanks at 21-19 and Fire And Ice and Kay + Dick each at 20-20.

Next week's premier matchup looks to be Fire And Ice vs. the Yanks.

Sampson Powers Wombats To Sweep With 704 Series
Tomahawks Two Back After Besting Twisted Sisters

South Glens Falls - The Wombats got a terrific effort Thursday afternoon from anchor Gary Sampson to sweep always-tough Leftover and maintain their standings lead after nine sessions of the Forever Young league at Kingpin's Alley.

Sampson carded a 704 series on games of 189, 236 and 279 to fuel the runaway victory. The Wombats are currently at 26-10.

The Tomahawks nearly matched that, but a 7-pin loss in the finale made them settle for a 3-1 win against Twisted Sisters. Roy Brady led the attack with 665 on games of 235, 216 and 214 while partner Don Williams added 220 and a pair of 198s for 616. The Toms sit at 24-12 and take on those Wombats next week as the FY enters a position round in the schedule.

Floyd Butler had 214-584 for Fire And Ice in their 3-1 triumph over Kay + Dick. Tony Pliscofsky filled in for John Urban again and put 249 at the end of his otherwise sub-par 544. Rod LaChapelle finished strong with 226 for 534 in Leftover's embarrassment vs. The Wombats.

Kay + Dick get the Over The Hill Gang next week, while Fire And Ice oppose the Twisted Sisters. Leftover-Yanks and The Singers-Ups And Downs complete the schedule.

Williams is atop the average leaderboard at 210, with Butler and Kenneally at 202. Brady remains fourth, but moved up mightily to 200.

South Glens Falls - The Tomahawks met the league-leading Wombats Thursday afternoon at Kingpin's Alley in Week 8 of the Forever Young season and throttled them 3-1 behind stellar performances from both players.

Don Williams left a solid 7-pin on his opening ball, converted that and then struck on the next ten shots for a league- and season-best 289 as the Toms rolled by 63. The middle game was promising until a pocket 7-10 in the tenth stopped the Hadley legend, resulting in a 14-point loss. Roy Brady took up the slack in the finale, putting a string of bombs together for 249 while Williams assisted with 202.

Williams finished his labors with 669 and Brady tallied 611. The result puts the Wombats at 22-10 and the Tomahawks at 21-11 just past the halfway mark.

Cameron Mitchell filled in for the ailing Dick Kenneally and led Kay + Dick (19-13) to a 4-0 sweep against the Over The Hill Gang (18-14). Mitchell had games of 236, 253 and 238 for 727.

Floyd Butler shot 633 on games of 215, 214 and 204 as Fire And Ice cooled off The Singers 3-1. Ray Davignon had the circuit's other 600 set, a 605 (211-181-213), but his Leftover (18-14) duo lost 3-1 to the Yanks.

Eight of the ten teams are at or above the .500 level. The session average was 165 with the season average at 166.

Williams is atop the average leaderboard at 210, with Butler at 203 and Kenneally 202. Brady remains fourth with 197.

South Glens Falls - The Tomahawks have turned a mediocre 8-8 record on May 29th into 18-10 presently. That 10-2 run has propelled them into a tie for second place in the Forever Young league after Thursday's Week 7 action at Kingpin's Alley.

Don Williams fired 629 on games of 229, 198 and 202 to lead the Tommies to a 3-1 win over Fire And Ice. Partner Roy Brady assisted with 209-203-279 for 591. The Butlers performed admirably, with Floyd producing 589 (191-182-216) and Linda 454.

The league-leading Wombats (21-7) had a mid-match hiccup against Ups And Downs, but otherwise prevailed rather handily. Gary Sampson tallied 560 in the 3-1 victory. The Over The Hill Gang sit tied with the Toms, three points in arrears. John Urban registered 203-530 in their 2-2 draw with The Singers.

Ray Davignon had the day's honor score with 630 on games of 200, 200 and 230 as Leftover pummeled Twisted Sisters 4-0. Rod LaChapelle put 224 in the center of his 590 effort. Chuck Winney filled in for the ailing Dick Kenneally and had 198-185-532 in Kay + Dick's sweep of the Yanks.

The session average was 161. Williams is atop the average leaderboard at 209, with Kenneally at 202 and Floyd 201. Brady remains fourth with 196.

South Glens Falls - Roy Brady blasted 673 on games of 205, 245 and 223 to pace the Tomahawks to the lone sweep in the Week 6 session of the Forever Young league on Thursday afternoon at Kingpin's Alley. The win against The Singers vaulted the Tommies into fourth place, three out of the lead. Brady's teammate Don Williams provided good support with 633 on games of 206, 223 and 204.

The Wombats (18-6) maintained their first-place standing by whipping the Yanks 3-1. Twisted Sisters split with Kay + Dick to hold second place at 16½-7½. Dick Kenneally flirted with 600 (173-223-203-599).

John Urban threw 625 (199-236-190) to take the Over The Hill Gang to a 3-1 win over Fire And Ice. Floyd Butler could not reprise last week's record-shattering performance, but produced 182-173-248 for 603. Leftover stayed above the .500 mark by virtue of their 3-1 victory versus Ups And Downs.

The session average was 163. Williams is atop the average leaderboard at 209, with Floyd and Kenneally at 202. Brady moved up to fourth with his huge series.
